PRESS RELEASE
HRS acquires controlling interest of hotel.de AG
Cologne, 14 October 2011 – Europe's leading hotel portal, HRS, announced today that it
will acquire 61.6% of the shares of worldwide hotel reservation service hotel.de AG from
the founding shareholders. With this acquisition, HRS will now own a total of 64.6% of the
company, advancing its position as a market leader in Europe.
HRS operates a worldwide portal for leisure and business travellers based on a database
with more than 250,000 hotels across all categories in 180 countries and has an average
of six million users per month. Based in Nuremberg, hotel.de AG has over four million
leisure and business customers worldwide and offers reservations in approximately
210,000 hotels. With this acquisition, HRS is laying the foundation for further growth.
"Both companies will greatly benefit from this acquisition. We can both take something
from the reach and experience in the hotel and eCommerce industry and incorporate our
brand expertise in order to accelerate growth and develop an even stronger reputation in
the international market in particular," asserts Tobias Ragge, HRS CEO. "In doing so, we
can offer our customers an even better range of hotels worldwide and provide our hotel
partners with access to a significantly larger share of potential bookings from both leisure
and business travellers."
hotel.de AG will continue to be run as an independent company under the same
management team and will follow its existing strategy for growth with its brands, hotel.de
in Germany and hotel.info outside of Germany. Both hotel.de locations in Nuremberg and
Hamm will continue as normal with the approximately 400 employees who work there.
