Rob Gardner has lived and worked in the Middle East for 20 years, including 16 years in Oman, where he started his working life as a water treatment engineer.
He discovered Oman as he set up desalination plants throughout the Sultanate, and his adventurous spirit was hooked by the country and its unspoiled beauty. It was during his many trips up the mountains, into the deserts and along the coastline that the idea of setting up an activity and adventure tourism company came to him.
His passion for the outdoors led Rob to founding Muscat Diving & Adventure, Ejabyah management, H2O man. His encounter with Talib Al Riyami, in 1996, was decisive in setting up the company – “We were both eager to develop an adventure type of tourism while protecting the hidden treasures of Oman,” Rob revealed.
Rob has been instrumental in the development of nature and adventure tourism in Oman, building a reputation internationally for Oman as a destination to visit for adventure and cultural holidays.
His objective was to employ keen Omani youths and provide them with customer service training of a very high standard, and to develop them into excellent outdoor guides with unrivalled knowledge.
Competition for work has helped to encourage dedication and a great work ethic, and some staff members have even gone on to form their own companies.
Rob is constantly also developing himself by gaining new qualifications and working on new projects – he recently began studying for a new masters degree in natural Science.
