  • ATM 12I always said that I never cared what I did, as long as I got to travel. So at the tender age of 21, I uprooted from my native Melbourne and went walk-about.

    After the obligatory European jaunts and ski season searching for the perfect powder runs, my voyage of discovery took me to Reed’s door, where I’ve been since 2007 working in the travel portfolio – a lucky coincidence!

    Since joining the Arabian Travel Market and IGTM team, I’ve taken on exciting new opportunities with seminars, media partnerships and networking events all coming under my growing remit. I have a thirst for knowledge and generally love talking – just ask my colleagues! – so I’m looking forward to building on the relationships we’ve started and delivering even more insightful – even controversial – content in 2012.

    IGTM is almost the reverse of ATM. A small, niche, closed event that really lets the team get to know the audience and them us! My main focus here are the Buyers, from recruitment to registration to appointments and after-parties, so I’m certainly learning a lot about the world of golf – although my handicap is still appalling.

    And while you may not see any corked hats or crocodile wrestling trophies in my closet, I’m known for channelling my inner Aussie in all aspects of my life (especially when sports are involved) ready to take up any challenge – or dare! – and enjoying every moment!

    I fell into Marketing and Reed Travel Exhibitions after studying teaching at University and then for some reason moving into recruitment. Having decided that path wasn't for me I found myself wanting to travel and earn money at the same time. Low and behold I also found a career path!

    I got my start in the ILTM marketing team taking care of web content and email communications. After two ILTMs I decided to take off on a adventure and moved to Canada for two years. Just a stones throw from the Rockies, I lived in Edmonton, Alberta and split my time between snowboarding and working for a small confernce co-ordination company. I loved the mountains and even the extremely cold winters!

    Upon my return in January 2010 I was happy to find there was a spot availble in the marketing team working on Arabian Travel Market and IGTM (International Golf Travel Market). I saw this as a perfect opportunity to develop my online marketing skills and still be close to the travel industry. Since then I have been taking care of the each shows online presence including the websites, social media, photography, email communications, mobile development, video production and a host of other exciting projects.

    Having spent a lot of my days travelling around the Europe sailing for GB and doing anything extreme and water re-lated - travelling around the globe for Arabian Travel Market and The International Golf Travel Market has been an easy transition.

    With a background in media, events, tv production and marketing both nationally and internationally and a passion for travel joining Reed Travel Exhibitions was right up my street.  I am your first point of call for all things media – ensure you take advantage of all of the online tools and PR tips to ensure your brand stands out and achieves great coverage across our international media reach. Other elements that fall into my remit are sponsorship, premium media partners, show daily, catalogue, registration and much much more…
     
    The highlight so far at Reed Exhibitions has to be “The ATM Apprentice campaign” - part of Careers Day. The buzz and excitement of this campaign in the region was fantastic but even better than that - Millennium found a top employee to fast track through their ranks as well as 4 other highly desirable new recruits.

    When contemplating my career my Dad once said to me “Lu it needs to be fun and profitable and I don’t just mean financially.  If you can answer yes to both these questions then you are on to a good thing”.  

    I have been at Reed Exhibitions for 10 years; I have had loads of fun, made good friends, worked on 6 different Travel Exhibitions and met my husband.  Arabian Travel Market is one of Reed Exhibitions highest performing exhibitions and I have a 7 minute walk to work from home!   So what more could I ask for?!  

    I manage the marketing team and we work on two great contrasting exhibitions; IGTM - niche and focused and ATM – comprehensive and large.  The challenges that each exhibitions brings definitely keeps us entertained.  Each team member is a specialist in their field and I can rely on them to not just get the job done but to get it done having a few laughs along the way!
