This morning saw the 21st edition of Arabian Travel Market get underway, opening with HE Helal Saeed Al Marri, CEO of Dubai World Trade Centre and Director General of Dubai Tourism and Commerce Marketing, talking about Dubai’s 2020 tourism vision on the seminar theatre stage.
Meanwhile, Inbound and outbound tourism professionals and buyers, from across the globe filled the halls to see what the Middle East’s leading international travel and tourism event, its 2700+ exhibitors and extensive events programme had to offer.
ATM Event Programme off to a flying start…
Day one did not disappoint. Aviation was a key focus in the event programme; with Air Arabia and Gulf Aviation both in the spotlight.
Adel Al, Air Arabia CEO was first up, giving the audience a fascinating insight into the development of low cost models in the Gulf region.
We caught up with Adel following his session and he gave us this great summary of points raised:
Next, it was a look to the future, when Abu Dhabi Airports and Boeing Commercial Airplanes told us why the Gulf is expanding airports, adding terminals and introducing completely new facilities, despite the fact airport capacity elsewhere in the world continuing to struggle.Buyers, buyers, buyers…
Buyers from every type of company in the leisure travel sector turned out in their hundreds for day one of Arabian Travel Market.
Their aim, to use their significant purchasing responsibility to do business and sign deals with exhibitors around the hall today and throughout the week.
This started with a bang when 150 buyers from the Hosted Delegate programme met with exhibitors in this mornings pre-scheduled appointments session.
Technology, Technology, Technology…
Technology was a popular topic today, with big names including TripAdvisor, Google and Sabre taking to the stage.
TripAdvisor's session was particularly interesting and gave an in depth explanation of how the industry can really utilise social media and mobile.
We chatted to Doros Theodorou, Commercial Director EMEA at TripAdvisor for Business after the session and asked him for his top tip for each, check out the video below to hear what he had to say:
