...and three other themed holidays your clients might enjoy in 2013
I can’t remember the last holiday I took that didn’t have a specific theme. In 2012 it was a gastronomic tour of Tuscany, complete with trips to rural restaurants, famous vineyards and shops selling local produce to be taken home and scoffed in our villa. The year before it was 10 days hiking in the Annapurna Mountains in Nepal. This year it will be a driving holiday along the Pacific Coast Highway in California, ending up in the Napa Valley.
Time is so precious these days, so people tend to want to make the most out of each holiday. Doing so means planning an itinerary beforehand, and the easiest way to do that is to decide on a theme and build the trip around that. For travel agents, that means plenty of opportunities to earn extra commission. Here are four themed holiday ideas your clients might enjoy, and a few suggestions for where to go to experience them.
Food is often an important factor when it comes to deciding where to travel. As well as sampling the cuisine of the places we visit, the possibility of spending time learning how to prepare it with local chefs, local ingredients and local techniques can be the basis for an entire vacation. It also gives visitors a rare chance to spend time learning about the local culture from the people who live there. What better way to get to know someone than by sharing a meal with them?

Golfing holidays are a chance for travellers to enjoy a destination through its most spectacular greens. Hospitality in countryside retreats and five-star resorts are all par for the course (excuse the pun) and train, private car or helicopter transfers from course to course are a great opportunity for travel agents to earn extra commission on bookings.

Taking a road trip with your loved one or your entire family is a rite of passage that everyone should enjoy. Some people will be hooked, while others will never set foot in a vehicle with their wife/kids/mother-in-law again. The key to a successful road trip is the right tools and a good map (or a state-of-the-art GPS system for those who like to play it safe). Most big car hire companies will allow customers to pick up a car at one destination and return it to another, which means that travellers can see more of the country than ever before. And travel agents can earn a hefty commission at the same time.

Sometimes we all just need a break - a real break that provides the chance to recharge our batteries and be kind to ourselves for a few days, both inside and out. In the perfect wellness break, the main attraction is you – your body and mind. With a combination of relaxation, healthy diet and gentle exercise, you can reinvigorate yourself and return to work feeling like a new person. Fortunately, many of the places that offer such escapes are of the five-star variety, which means high rates and lots of commission for you.
